Christianity - Worship

1. Christian worship usually involves prayers, hymns, readings and a sermon.

2. Christians worship the Trinity, God the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

3. Christian worship may also include a variety of holy ceremonies, called sacraments, such as the Eucharist.

4. The Eucharist may also be known as Holy Communion and remembers the Last Supper Jesus shared with his disciples.

5. Christians share bread and wine that has been blessed and remember Jesus.

6. Christians can worship God on their own and in any place.

7. Sunday is the Christian holy day, the same day as Jesus rose from the dead.

8. Different churches use different types of worship, some elaborate, some very simple.

9. Some worship is led by a minister, some has greater participation from the worshippers.

10. Christian clergy wear special clothes such as a cassock, a clerical collar and a surplice.

11. They teach God’s way, prepare services, look after their congregations and administer sacraments.

12. Christians may choose to worship together in a church, chapel or cathedral.

13. Churches are usually designed in the shape of a cross with the altar at the east.

14. Bells may be used to call Christians to worship.

15. Formal ceremonies may occur on special occasions such as weddings, funerals and baptisms.

16. Baptism marks a person’s entry into the Christian community.

17. Water is used to show that sins have been washed away, people may be immersed in water or just sprinkled with it.

18. Two important Christian festivals are Christmas and Easter.

19. At Christmas, Christians thank God for sending Jesus and remember the message of peace on Earth and goodwill to everyone.

20. At Easter, they remember how Jesus died and came back to life again.

21. The special Holy Book for Christians is the Bible which has two parts, the Old Testament and New Testament.

22. The Old Testament has thirty-nine books, and was written before Jesus was born, telling the history of the Jewish people.

23. The New Testament has twenty-seven books and tells the story of Jesus’ life and teachings.

24. It has been translated into many languages and is the biggest-selling book of all time.
