Christianity - Last Supper and Crucifixion

1. After entering Jerusalem Jesus arranged to have a last supper with his disciples.

2. During the meal, Jesus broke the bread and blessed it, giving it to his disciples, saying it was his body that was given for them.

3. He then blessed some wine and said that it was his blood which he would shed for them.

4. While they were eating, Jesus predicted that one of the disciples would betray him (Judas) and another would deny knowing him (Peter)

5. The country’s rulers had become worried that Jesus was becoming too popular and had persuaded Judas to betray him.

6. After eating, Jesus went to pray at the Garden of Gethsemane, where Judas brought his enemies to arrest him.

7. Judas identified Jesus with a kiss.

8. Jesus was sent to trial before the Roman Governor, Pontius Pilate.

9. Pilate was not happy about sending Jesus to be crucified, but the priests had persuaded the crowd to call for his death.

10. Jesus was scourged with a short whip made from leather thongs with small balls of lead attached to them.

11. He was taken away, a crown of thorns was placed on his head.

12. Jesus was made to carry the heavy wooden cross to the site of the crucifixion, on a hill at Golgotha.

13. Here he was nailed to the cross.

14. Roman soldiers mocked Jesus and placed a sign above his head, calling him the, ‘King of the Jews’.

15. He was placed between two thieves.

16. Jesus asked God to forgive those who were crucifying him and told one of the thieves he would be with him in Paradise.

17. At the moment Jesus died, the sky went dark and the earth shook.

18. The Roman soldiers pierced his side.

19. Jesus’ body was removed by Joseph of Arimathea, wrapped in linen and laid in a tomb.

20. The tomb was cut in the rock and sealed with a large stone.

21. When friends of Jesus visited the tomb on Sunday to anoint his body, they found the stone rolled away and the body gone.

22. They were informed by an angel that Jesus had risen from the dead.

23. He appeared to his disciples several times before going to his father in heaven.

24. His resurrection heartened his disciples who then continued to preach his gospel with great enthusiasm.
